Great Music, Family Fun and Delicious Food Headline the 2008 EC2055 Labor Day Weekend Community Block Party

Blakely, GA. – The legendary country music group Sawyer Brown has top billing at this year's 2055 Early County Labor Day Weekend Celebration, on Saturday, August 30. In addition Dothan, Alabama county music singer Shane Owens will be rockin' and rollin' as part of the all day celebration. Admission is free.
The afternoon concert will feature the band Sawyer Brown who performed last year at the Block Party and received great reviews from those attending. Shane Owens of Dothan, Alabama will also perform. He has shared the stage with many of Country's top artists, including Hank Williams Jr., Lori Morgan, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Kenny Chesney and dozens of others, while touring all over the South.
The traditional Labor Day weekend event is brought to the area communities by Early County 2055, as a way to celebrate Early County – a great destination spot in southwest Georgia for living, working and just having a good time. The festivities will be on the Blakely's Court Square from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. There will be a host of family entertainment venues and events.
"Hundreds of people traveled to Blakely last year to enjoy our 2007 Labor Day Weekend Block Party. This year Early County 2055 is hosting what has come to be a local tradition. It will be a celebration that everyone will remember," said Lisa Collins, director of economic development, Early County 2055. "We are especially excited that we have two popular groups joining us! Country Music Group Sawyer Brown, known for the excitement and energy they generate, will perform on court square, as well as Shane Owens. It is going to be a great day."
What is happening at the celebration includes:
• Bed race (create a bed that will wow the crowds and win the race)
• Hot dog contests
• Kid's corner: face painting, dunking booth, inflatables
• Clowns, Balloons
• Tricycles Races
• Local Artisans and Crafts Displays
• Adults Rock-a-thon
• Southern Cuisine
The weekend also heralds an exciting line-up of independent films and symposiums at the Third Annual Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival which is being held in Blakely, Colquitt and Camilla, Ga. Celebrities and film industry experts will join educators, students, movie watchers, festival lovers and the local communities in "Celebrating Film Southern Style".
Premier screenings, documentaries and shorts are planned and educational symposiums led by film industry professionals and celebrities are scheduled throughout the weekend. More information can be found on www.swgafestival.com .
Happening concurrently on Saturday, August 30, during the Labor Day Block Party festivities will be a special symposium presented by Dr. Ted Baehr, founder of MovieGuide; a feature screening of Amazing Grace, 10:00 AM at the Blakely Cine-Plex; and an opportunity to meet show business and movie industry celebrities and get their autographs, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at the Blakely Cine-Plex.
The Third Annual Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival will be hosted by HennyPenny Video/Television Training Program, Laughing Crow 1 Entertainment, LLC, Early County 2055, the City of Camilla, and the Southwest Georgia Film Commission Office.
