Sawyer Brown returning for August 30 Block Party
Wednesday, August 20, 2008
The legendary country music group Sawyer Brown has top billing again this year at the 2055 Early County Labor Day Weekend Celebration Aug. 30.
Dothan's country star Shane Owens will also take to the stage during the all-day block party.
The Labor Day weekend event is sponsored by Early County 2055 to celebrate Early County as a great destination for living, working and just having a good time. The festivities will be on Court Square beginning at 10 a.m., including a variety of family activities and events extending to 4 p.m..
"Hundreds of people traveled to Blakely last year to enjoy our 2007 Labor Day Weekend Block Party," said Lisa Collins, Early County 2055 director of economic development. "We are especially excited that we have two popular groups joining us! It is going to be a great day."
The activities will include a bed race, hot dog contests, a kid's corner — face painting, dunking booth, inflatables, clowns, balloons, tricycle races, arts and crafts, adult rock-a-thon and plenty of southern cuisine.
The block party activities coincide with the Jokara- Micheaux Film Festival activities in Blakely, Colquitt and Camilla. Celebrities and film industry experts will join educators, students, movie watchers and festival lovers in "Celebrating Film Southern Style."
