Early County 2055
SHARING A VISION
Early County is well on the way to success in its effort to revitalize its economy, create opportunity, and protect its future. A fifty-year Master Plan is in place that is advancing targeted initiatives designed to strengthen the economic future of the area. The phased approach, designed to bring economic growth and a higher quality of life for all its citizens, will be implemented in five year increments.
PHASE ONE
The first phase of this long-term revitalization effort was funded by a gift from the Charles and Catherine B. Rice Foundation. The goal of the initiative was to support community efforts to preserve its history and natural resources while finding solutions to the challenging economic problems it faces. This generous grant gave the community the hope and inspiration needed to step up to the plate and help shape a vision and long-range strategy for the county.
The economic situation of Early County, like so many other rural areas, is a challenge. Solutions are possible but complex. The area has many assets which set it apart from other similar communities. However, some fundamental challenges that include work force preparation, literacy and poverty issues must be resolved.
