Blakely, Georgia, established in 1825, is the county seat of Early County which is one of the oldest counties in the state, created in 1818 from land acquired in a treaty with the Creek Indians. It was named in honor of the United State Naval hero, Captain Johnston Blakely. Blakely prides itself on offering an atmosphere that is clearly interested in preserving its past while preparing itself for moving into a prosperous future.
